Cougar Bar & Grill

"Local bar and grill specializing in comfort food. They advertise good food and lousy service - not true. We had Candice as a server - friendly, knew her menu and provided great recommendations, and even provided some local lore. I went with the Eruption - a chicken fried steaktopped withash potatoes, topped with sausage country gravy. You feel it killing you but are satisfied that at least you will die happy. It was so good - alot of food, it's a hungry persons dish to be sure. The wife went with a burger - rural grills do an amazing job on their meats - it's clearly a point of pride. The onion rings were also worth mentioning - they used a beer batter that was wonderful. The atmosphere is decidedly local - I pointed out the cougar skin, the head of which was inches from my wife's face, and asked if she thought it was soft. She hadn't quite seen it so jumped a bit, making me VERY happy, much to her annoyance. The walls are covered with like things, from the stories of the heroes of the eruption to farm implements - pretty cool spot with good food and great service. Highly recommend."

"Best and only bar in Cougar, WA! Offers liquor and canned beers. $9 space dust pint. Standard bar pizza, heavy on the cheese. Volcano burger was an excellent greasy burger with tons of jalapenos! Has a small bar with 4-5 seats, as many tables and outdoor seating."

"Really cool rustic bar. Service was fast and friendly even with a lean staff. We enjoyed everything on the app sampler and the wedge salad was surprisingly good. It's a little pricey but understandable given the remote location. Definitely worth a visit."

"Came here starving after exploring the Ape Cave. Unassuming decor on the outside (are they even open?), sit anywhere you like on the inside. Friendly service, rustic decor with lots of pics of Mt St Helens blowing her top, and the food was WONDERFUL! Wow, not at all what I expected. I got the Chipotle Steakhouse Sandwich with fries (and it turns out the fries are like CURLY steak fries, yum!), grandkid got the Cougar Cheese Steak, and we both munched on some of the best Cheese Curds (cheese poppers) we ever had. The dipping sauce our waitress suggested was super good. Wound up bringing a lot of it home with us. Nice, generous portions of food. I will definitely come here again! "We stopped in after our hike to grab a bite to eat. The waitress was super friendly & attentive. The restaurant was clean & cozy feeling. The food was hot & delicious. We really enjoyed everything we had, especially the homemade soup :)"

"I will be honest - it wasn't my idea to go there. I'm not overly fond of bars of any kind. And didn't want to drive 30 minutes out of our way to go there. I don't know why we did. That's beside the point. The place is nothing spectacular on the outside. The inside is typical bar, but the pictures on the walls of Mr. St. Helens were cool, as were a few other decorations. The place was not packed, it was a mid-afternoon lunch on a Saturday for us. It was busy enough, for sure. The service was slow, and the waitress was not attentive after we received our food. The food we had was good. They had some interesting looking cuts of french fries. Unique. My friend liked them. I had onion rings and a bacon grilled cheese sandwich. I wasn't really in the mood for burgers and such. It was an ok place to eat. I wouldn't drive out of my way to go there."
